Architecture in the Wild: Exploring Corn Hill's Architectural History

Love old buildings but not sure how to tell a Queen Anne from a Dutch Colonial? Step outside and explore Rochester’s architectural history where it actually lives! This walking tour takes students through Corn Hill, Rochester’s oldest residential neighborhood, tracing the area's evolution from the city’s earliest days through the population boom of the early 20th century. Along the way, students will learn to recognize key architectural styles, pick up helpful architectural terminology, and discover simple ways to roughly date the historic homes seen every day.

Please note: This class is an active walking tour (approximately 1.5–2 miles on sidewalks and paved paths). Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.
